Mark Burns

Mark brings a wealth of experience from his twelve years of teaching Business Studies as well as working in the field of gifted and talented education. His keen appreciation about what motivates people to learn and engage lies at the core of his training.

He has worked extensively delivering and coaching on the TES Training Award shortlisted “Outstanding Teaching” intervention in schools in Merseyside. Through this work, observing literally hundreds of lessons in both primary and secondary schools, he has gained a keen understanding of the key ingredients required to transform learning in the classroom so that it is active, high in challenge, collaborative and student-led.

Mark’s recent training programme,’The Uncertainty Principle’ at New Heys School, Liverpool was shortlisted for the prestigious TES Awards. The programme aimed to equip staff with tools and strategies to deal with the ongoing change that life and upheaval inevitably bring.

His work in helping to develop teaching and learning at Richard Rose Central Academy was noted in their recent Ofsted report.

Mark is available for keynote presentations, inspiring and thought-provoking one day INSET, training interventions as well as courses working with students.

What delegates have said

“Mark delivered the session to a very high standard. He was a lively, intuitive presenter whose interactive approach walked the talk.”

“I think it was one, if not the best training session I’ve attended, thank you.”

“The course was really good and I thoroughly enjoyed the presentation and the content. Many teachers have tried some of the new ideas out and the materials he sent have been reproduced by departments. Mark did well to win over some of our ‘old salts’ who came in negative and left very happy.”

“I attended your recent workshop in London. I have to say, on reflection, it was one of the most worthwhile pieces of training I have ever had.”

“Thanks, also, for a fantastic day. Everyone has been raving about it and buzzing with enthusiasm today. People have been coming up to me all day to tell me about what they’ve been trying out with their classes and our reprographics office has been copying endless grids and other resources that people put together last night, based on your ideas. Finally, I thought you might like to know that the Head went to a LEA Head’s meeting today and told colleagues about what a great INSET we had from you yesterday so you may get to spend more time in Hampshire!”

I want to let you know how well the inset day went last Thursday. Mark was excellent and the evaluations were very positive indeed.

What students on MALIT courses have said about Mark

“The entire day was excellent. It was funny, interesting and I enjoyed all the activities… there wasn’t once that my mind wandered.”

What teachers in schools have said about Mark’s courses for students

“The course was well run and the presenter connected well with all pupils, so much so they were asking when their next session was.”
